Lightning Protection for Tower Crane

Lightning protection plays an indispensable role in the safety management in construction sites. Thus the corresponding technology should be properly applied in TOWER CRANE.

Three Parts of Lightning Protection

1. Lightning arrester
The lightning protection device of construction machinery is equipped with a 1 to 2m lightning rod on the top. The lightning rod is normally made of steel tube whose top end is flattened. Then this end is well sealed by welding or made into a tip. Later, the lightning rod can get hot-dip galvanized appropriately and connected with download with bolts or by welding.

2. Downlead part
Anticorrosion welding should be adopted at the welding seam. Connect two galvanized bolts then reinforce them with a loose washer which must be no smaller than the bolts. Subsequently, the downlead is jointed by multi-strand copper wire. The last procedure should be operated by professionals.

3. Grounding device
Knock three 2.5m long steel pipes or steel angles, with an interval of 5 meters, into the ground, 0.5m in depth, to make an artificial grounding electrode. Then weld their upper parts together with flat steel which is later extended to link the downlead part to form a set of grounding body.
